Honeysuckle DM (Delayed Maturity)
Sorghum Sudangrass

Honeysuckle DM (delayed maturity) is a new hybrid that produces increased yields and protein. This is a sweet summer annual forage grass for hay, grazing, haylage, or cover-crop/carbon-builder. Sweet stems and increased leaf to stem ratio ensures a quality of feed cattle prefer over others. This hybrid has quick regrowth suitable for multiple cuttings.
TDN can reach 58-62% and protein can reach 14-16%. The delayed maturity trait allows more time to harvest a highly nutritious forage, or 25 to 30 days additional grazing. Harvest is normally 55-60 days after planting. Harvest height should be 40”- 50” for haylage and hay or begin grazing at 18″-24”. Since this hybrid is later maturing the harvest height can vary and therefore be delayed to achieve a higher yield prior to harvest. Honeysuckle DM can be left to grow for 25-30 extra days; this will increase the yield substantially while maintaining quality.

We have seen growers harvest this hybrid once instead of twice which improves efficiency and decreases field compaction. This hybrid is an excellent option for green manure production to build organic matter/carbon.
